As many have learned the hard way, trying to use an MSD rpm chip with
fuel injection as a launch control doesn't work. The engine goes rich, the
cylinders go cold and the launch is junk.
The cause is that you are on 100% barrel valve opening and the pump is
putting out whatever gpm it does at that particular rpm. Check your flow
sheets for verification. Basically you are drowning the engine.
You could install a solenoid to bleed off some fuel at stage but why not use
the injection the way it was intended? That barrel valve spool acts as a
restrictor for part throttle use and doing it this way allows tailoring the
secondary circuit if your injection is so equipped.
This air operated throttle control is the answer. The butterflies only open
enough to create the rpm you set and the barrel valve stays in it's working
zone. Your foot is flat on the floor and once you release the trans brake
button or the clutch the injector slams open instantly or at a slower preset
rate. The rate adjustment feature is handy for total junk starting lines or
controlling ET.
This is a stouter version than you see on carburated cars. It can be set up
to pull or push the Hat lever without bending. It also has enough travel for
fuel injection which has a longer throw than carbs.
